Es wird nicht besser, überall weihnachtet es. Diesmal allerdings nur, weil der Stern die kleinste Ausstechform ist, die ich hatte. Eigentlich ist nämlich Quittenzeit. Ich konnte ernten und weil es fast fad ist, zu zeigen, wie ich mein Quittengelee gemacht habe, zeige ich lieber, was ich mit dem Rest gemacht habe. Eine Art Upcycling. Ich koche meine Quitten nicht im Entsafter, sondern mit Wasser bedeckt in einem Topf. Dann passiere ich sie durch ein feines Haarsieb. Übrig bleibt jede Menge zermantschtes Fruchtfleisch. Doch die Arbeit des Schälens und Entkernens lohnt sich, wenn man dann Quittenspeck daraus macht. Mit Zucker und etwas Zitronensäure lasse ich die Fruchtmasse auf niedriger Stufe köcheln, bis sie fest wird. Dann kommt die Masse auf ein Stück Alufolie und dort darf sie ein paar Tage trocknen. Wenn sie fest genug ist, werden die Sterne ausgestochen.

It’s not going to be any better today. Christmas all around. This time I just opted for the smallest cookie form I had – a star. Because it is quince time. I had some of them to harvest and made a lot of jam. More interesting I think is what I did with the rest. Because if you take the time to peel them and cut them and let them simmer in hot water, you will not only get jam. Strain the quinces and take the rest of the mash in an extra pot. Add some sugar and citric acid and let simmer for some time. It will set after a time and then you put it on a piece of aluminum foil. Let dry for a few days. Then come the stars. 

Weil das viel Arbeit ist und ich keine Sternenmantsche möchte, habe ich eine alte Schokokussschachtel zerschnitten, die Sterne drauf platziert und mit Frischhaltefolie umwickelt. So kann ich sie gleich in fertigen Portionen verteilen. Sieht einfach hübsch aus zu Geschenken und ist ein leckeres Mitgebsel. Wenn man es damit bis zur Haustür schafft…

Because it’s a  lot of work and I just didn’t want to make a mess of it, I cut an old candy box apart and used it for the stars. Some fresh foil around and they look very pretty. A nice present, if they make it to the door…..
